The American Cowboy

~Sherry Cervi~

Born into a Rodeo family, the daughter of Wendy and Mel Potter this World Champion Barrel Racer had never sung a note in her life before she was asked to sing on "The American Cowboy". Sherry is a joy to work with; sweet, loaded with personality and hard working. She could make a new career for herself in Country Music if she desires. At 6 ft in height with long blond hair its no wonder Sherry has sponsors like Wrangler Jeans for Sherry could easily be a model.

Sherry credits her gelding Hawk for her success in the world of rodeo. She has ridden him in 70% of the rodeos she competed in. Sherry won her first World Championship in 1995 and her second in 1999.I remember watching her compete as Sherry Potter prior to her marriage. She was one of the three most exciting barrel racers-the other two being Charmayne James and Kristie Peterson. So many times the contest would be decided on the last run between these three women.

Sherry, to me, is a very brave young woman. She lost her beloved husband Mike Cervi, Jr., a private plane crash Sept 29th,2001 when he was flying to a rodeo. Mike was a team roper, the son of top Rodeo Contractor Mike Cervi. Although her heart was broken Sherry finished the year off at both the Copenhagen Cup and the NFR . She sang the song "Rodeo Wind" as a memorial tribute to Mike. She has also helped set up two major Team Ropings in his memory-one in Marana, Arizona where they lived; and the other in Greeley Co.... Although she stayed away from the rodeo scene this year, Sherry has competed in barrel futurities. We hope to see her back on the Rodeo scene next season. Sherry, you are one brave young woman and we wish you well.
